We've been having a very cold January here in the Midwest, and my friend Dina asked for a headband to keep the snow out of her ears. I had just finished a hat that uses this stitch for a few rows, and I wanted to explore it a little more. I like the crocheted seed stitch effect. Textured crochet is popular right now, and I think this quick crochet headband is elegant and on trend.
Crochet Hook: 6.00mm/J
Recommended yarn weight: Medium 4 (Worsted Weight). I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Natural Heather.
Finished project measures approximately 16” in diameter and 4 ¼” wide. It is worked in the round.
Gauge: 4 stitches per inch, and about 2 ½ rows per inch. Gauge is not essential here, because the work is almost as quick as a swatch. Besides, headbands are stretchy and forgiving.
Row 1: HDC around, join to start with a sl st.
Row 2: ch 2, then DC in the third loop around. Join to start of round with sl st.
Row 3: Here you begin alternating FPDC and BPDC. Start with ch 1. *FPDC, BPDC in next post. Repeat from * around. Join to start with sl st.
Row 4. Start with ch 1. Now start by making a BPDC in every FPDC, and FPDC in every BPDC. Repeat around. Join to start with sl st.
Alternate rows 3 and 4 until you like the width, or 2 more times.
Finishing: Work a DC row, then finish with a HDC row in the third loop. Weave in ends.
This is my first pattern, so please let me know if there are any errors.
